Whey Protein - the Benefits and Side-effects?

400,00,00,000 or Four hundered carores rupees, thats the estimated annual market sales of whey protein and others body-suppliment products in India.
It's obvious that anyone and almost everyone attached to the fitness and health industry doesn't want to lose making making from this exponentially growing market.
In the hoard to make a quick buck,a great majority of "fitness trainers" advocate body building suppliments without even the knowledge about the same.
I have had the chance of meeting personal trainers from the best multi-national gyms of the country to those who run shop from local establishments. The lure of making the quick buck is so strong that many such fitness centers employ people who are completely illiterate about the human body and the basics of suppliment requirement.
Just to mention a great anecdote, a few months ago, a nation wide gym had just opened its new branch next to my clinic. I accompanied a fellow doctor friend of mine to check the place out. To our surprise, one of the training instructors at that place was an ex-ward boy who had worked in my friends hospital. From his knowledge he was not even 8th class educated, and had been removed from duty because of stealing money from patients.

Whey protein can be easily one of the most abused body suppliment in India. Every single instructor advocates it. 99% of instructors have a common formula that is generally advocated for every member. Cheap fakes made from everything like milk-powder to chalk poweder are readily available and sold at all pharmacies, sports centers and super-markets.

Hereby a small educating article on some basic information about Whey protein.

Although there is a lack of any neutral agency conducted long term study on whey protein and its effects on the body. Sporadic world wide reports have reported the following side-effects:

a. People with lactose intolerance may develop allergic reactions after having whey protein. However, two forms of this protein- whey protein isolates and hydrolysates- are recommended in such cases.

Akshaya Tritiya - what it means?

Wishing you all a  very Happy Akshaya Tritiya my friends.

90% follow the Traditional procedures of Akshaya Tritiya  without understanding why and what it is meant for?
Here I have research the internet and would like to give you a synopsis of the importance of this festival.

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej is a Hindu and Jain holy day, that falls on the third Tithi (Lunar day) of Bright Half (Shukla Paksha) of the pan-Indian month of vaishakha.

In Jainism this day is celebrated because-
Tirthankara Rshabhdeva was king of Ayodhya. He being enlightened gave up all worldly pleasures and chose to lead the life of an ascetic and become a Jain monk. Jain monks do not own anything. They do not even cook food for themselves. While hungry or thirsty, they go to people and ask for food or drinking water. Tirthankara Rshabhdeva also went to people and asked food. However, the people of that time did not know anything about the acts of monks, as he was the first monk in this era. People of Ayodhya offered gold, jewellery, gemstones, elephants, horses, expensive garments and even their daughters to honour their beloved king. Rshabhdeva was not in quest of all these. He wanted only a morsel of food, but nobody it to offered him. Nobody understood that their king was asking for food. As there was no choice, he had to fast for a long time until his grand son Shreyansha kumara understood his need. Shreyansha Kumara, finally, offered him sugarcane juice and Rshabhdeva ended his fast after a year. This was on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. This is considered by the Jains as one of the best offerings. It is believed that bestowing upon religious gifts on Akshaya Tritiya becomes inexhaustible. Jains, even today, observe fast to commemorate their first Tirthankara Rshabhadeva and end their fast on Akshaya Tritiya with sugarcane juice.

In Hinduism
Akshay Tritiiya was the day when the sage Ved Vayasa started dictating the epic Mahabharata to lord Ganesh.
It is also traditionally observed as the birthday of  Parashuram the sixth incarnation of god Vishnu. The scriptures speak about how he reclaimed the land from the sea.

The word "Akshaya" means the never diminishing in sanskrit and the day is believed to bring good luck and success. It is believed that if you do charity on this day you will be blessed. Nowadays jewellers have turned the purity into a marketing gimmick. The day is considered auspicious for starting new ventures. The legend is that any venture initiated on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya continues to grow and bring prosperity. Hence, new ventures, like starting a business, construction etc. is initiated on Akshaya Tritiya.
