Relationship Counseling - Why do NEW AGE couples need it?

The last 20yr have been those of extreme change for the social network of the Indian Society.
The most marked difference is economic independence for both genders at a younger age.
This has been a driver for change in the perceptive powers.
Today more than ever, couples (dating, having a live-in or married) need neutral counseling, rather than friends or family who will always be baised towards one partner.

Why NEW AGE informed and educated couples need Relationship Counselling?

1. Communication Brigde - Most couples lose love because lack of effective communication. Every day seems same, every activity seems same. They "adjust" to each other, and the only exciting interaction they have is a fight. An effective relationship counselling session helps them start building on a communication gap they have unconsciously created.

2. "the blame game" - The biggest monster to howl a relationship is the blame game. The failure to accept collective responsibility for decrease in love, increases the rift and drift between soul-mates.

3. Neutral outlook - Most family and friends always love to take sides... Cliches counseling lines like "you should change for him/her" are nervous system breaking. A new outlook can create a new perspective in mind.

4. Venting it out - If you have suppressed anger and frustration that is disturbing your sleep, concentration, irritating your personality and leading your relationship into a nervous break down. You certainly require a venting out medium. Talk the same in front of family and friends can many times be used againt you. As such "secrets" are always opened to widen the rift.

5. Effective Advice - When you pay for an advice you tend to accept and give it more thought than when you get it for free.

RESPONSIBILITY - are you ready?

Every day, every week, every year I meet people at my clinic or at “coffee-shop counselling” for personality development. The one issue that most commonly people battle is the fear of taking responsibility.
Be it at job, home or their personal health, the word RESPONSIBILITY immediately triggers stress, anxiety and panic.

When many ask me what is the Mind Mantra for responsibility, I say it’s simple -  IF IT HAS TO BE DONE, I WILL DO IT.

Unfortunately for this mantra the pre-requisite is that your personality should be  ready to accept it, imbibe it and practice it.

IS YOUR PERSONALITY READY FOR RESPONSIBILITY?
Well the answer lies in the following questionnaire.  I call it the “responsibility questionnaire”... Just go through the questions and answer in YES/NO

1.     Do you get uncomfortable or restless when there is silence?
2.     Do you keep apologizing for everything, even if you were not involved for the cause of the hurt/failure/harm?
3.     You have problem being strict. You keep forgiving people who are repeatedly making mistakes?
4.     You take it as your duty to give others and yourself “excuses” for the behaviour exhibited by the above (point 3) repeated offenders?
5.     When exposed to a sudden challenge your first reaction is of “Fright”. Your brain is instantly loaded with negativity about the situation?
6.     You try to be in everyone’s good books. You find it difficult to behave badly with someone who is taking advantage of you?
7.     You constantly lose sleep, worrying about self and others?
8.     You crave for attention by others. Whenever you are neglected your mind is flooded with flashbacks of things you have done for others?
9.      You sacrifice your own happiness, just to be at the same emotional plane as your co-worker or family members?
10.  Do you harbour guilt?
11.  Do you constantly compare your life with those of others?
12.  Do you constantly feel you are lacking in responsibility?
13.  Meeting a senior or someone in a higher position is very stressful event, which you try to avoid?
14. You tend to take the blame for events and circumstances. Without analysing what or who caused them?
15.  You need someone to guide you at all times?

It’s very difficult to give a question by question break-up and what personality character it indicates. But in a general view:

Score yourself one (1) point for every yes you have given.

If you score 9 or more, then time to raise THE RED FLAG. It’s a sign of danger. You need to immediately modify your personality to make it adequate for responsibility taking, else you will land up battling clinical levels of stress, anxiety and depression.

The Medical Representative Chronicles - Personal Branding

M.R's or Medical Representatives are the frontline foot soldiers in the LOC between doctors and pharma companies. Every evening I get a bunch of them neatly aligned outside my clinic, well dressed and prepared to present their products.

I remember my first exposure to a MR as a doctor. It was during my internship. It was during my 3rd day in  surgery posting, when this gentleman walked towards me and my professor with a big black bag. My professor was a terror, and that particular day he just "ripped" this guy apart.

Over the years I have learnt to respect the MR community. Not only have I learnt a lot from them, but also have found many of them to be very rich in a personality trait that the corporate world spends millions of dollars to acquire... The individual ability of "personal branding".

5 points about personal branding that a good Medical Representative can teach everyone:

1. Choice - Life is not always about choice. Many of the chaps who get into the MR community do so as the last resort. A successful MR is he who accepts that his line of work is not less than any one else, and directs his entire focus into shaping his career according to it.

2. Acting - Real Life is not like the movies. Every man has thousands of limitations. Deadlines, targets, personal desires, etc etc... Its a never ending list of personal and professional demands which keep cropping day in and day out.  A successful MR has to be an actor. He needs to know which emotions to take and which to let lose. He needs to have a smile on his face. No matter he is mourning the death of a relative, he needs to be a face that everyone will accept.

3. Not a salesman but an ambassador for the product - People recognize a salesman from a distance. That's when they start to bargain. They will always want an upper hand. A successful MR is an ambassador of his product. He is a walking and talking promotion board. He doesn't just sell it, he attracts you to buy it.
There is wonderful story to go with this point. A few years ago, when i was a psychiatry resident, there was one MR which everyone would make fun off. A guy who literally wore his entire basket of products over his body. From his tie to the watch he sported, everything beard the name of one of his products. His body language and way of interacting made no excuses about his love for his company. Surprisingly subconsciously most of us wrote his products. The names of his products just pegged and stayed in our memory till today.

4. Advertising your deeds- If you walk an extra mile and keep your mouth shut, no one will ever care about you. But if you walked that extra mile and knew the words in which to convey it to your client, he would immediately develop a soft corner and take notice of you. A good MR makes sure he refreshes your memory in a non-hostile way.

5. 24x7 - The most important concept of personal branding is "24x7". You cann't relax your guard anytime.
A friend of mine who was poor in studies, and opted to take up a career as a MR failed miserably because mentally his duty ended with meeting the doctor. Vis-a-vis a successful MR is ready 24x7. His job doesn't end with the last "call". And he seeks to utilize his time for better professional productivity.

The Power of Laughter

Laughter is a powerful antidote to stress, pain, and conflict. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humor lightens your burdens, inspires hopes, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert.

With so much power to heal and renew, the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health.

Laughter is good for your health
Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.

Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.

Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.

Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

The Yoga for Devotion

Why is that everyone who prays to god doesn't get what he wants?

The answer is simple and known to most. When most people pray, they feel their duty ends with reciting a few words.
A prayer doesn't end with words, it starts with it. Further it has to develop into actions. It's these emotional and behavioral changes that help purify yourself to receive the blessings of god.
This action is called the Yoga of Devotion.

What is the Yoga of Devotion?
As the great saint Jagatguru Kripaluji Maharaj has mentioned:

The foundation of devotion is Humility. Humility is the power of having respect for others without seeking any compliments, being humble and always forgiving.

Devotion starts, stays, and develops only on the basis of humbleness. Any touch of pride and ego spoils it, just like a pinch of salt spoils a cake. Pride or ego is an obstacle in devotion. Humbleness of a devotee develops dedication to God that prepares him/her for divine grace.

Power - Are you ready to become Powerful?

We don't need to look into the lives of Anna Hazare, Mahatma Gandhi, Barrack Obama, Hitler, Osama bin Laden, etc to know what the meaning of power is. We just need to focus on what is happening around us to see the thousands of men and women who are using power.

I love to call Power an emotional substance. What do I mean by that, its one of the few emotions that crosses the subconscious barrier to bring about chemical changes, neuronal changes and structural changes within the brain.

Power like any other emotional substance is both addictive and corrosive. Thou whenever spoken off, power is majorly referred in context of politicians and tyrants, we conveniently forget how power is being mishandled by parents, friends, partners, managers, spouses, businessmen, etc ... the list never stops...The lure of dominance over others and the need to control others life is so intoxicating that it makes even the simplest of individuals into an manipulative game player.

A few properties of power that one has to always keep in mind-

1. Mahatma Gandhi / Anna Hazare - Like its negative side, power has a very positive side. A man or woman of courage who utilizes power for benefit of self and others can become a great leader. A good leader has the ability to motivate, induce confidence and alleviate fear from everyone who comes in touch with him.

2. Napoleon / Hitler / Osama bin Laden- Everyone knows that power corrupts. And its more than often that a corrupted individual has higher chances of attracting power. Once powerful, a man without too a strong moral or ethical backup will leads his power towards self-destruction.

3. Control Freak - The control freak is an expression of Power mixed with inferiority Complex. He/She who tries to control every single movement of another person, is just expressing his/her insecurity.
This is the most commonly abused power form. From parents who lack trust in their children, to possessive lovers, to overtly intrusive boss... control freaks are present at every step of your life. In most of the cases, they land up hurting you invisibly at emotional and psychological levels.

Everyone wants to be a leader. Everyone thinks of himself/herself as the best manager for a situation. Before doing so, look into yourself and judge-

"If your actions speak loud enough to inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, than you are a leader.
If you are ready to serve others with a fixed vision and without expectation of anything in return, you are a good leader.
If you just want to be utilize power for your personal gain, then you might rise to the top, but one day you will fall."

Your Subconscious Mind is making you fat?

Joe had a very regular life. He went to work, he loved to spend time with his wife and kids and he loved his friends... The only thing that kept changing over the years was his waist size.
The slim 55kg young adult was now weighing 75kg. All that in less than 6yrs after joining his job.

Wondered why it happened?
I’ll tell you what happened.
  • When Joe was in college his worries were simple. He had a few things to look forward too, had a bunch of friends.
  • When he came out of college, and started living in the real world, his subconscious mind changed focus into being more self-centric. Personal satisfaction became very important.
  • Be it his job, or his marriage or his social life, personal satisfaction was how his subconscious reacted.
  • In college Joe's body metabolism was extremely high. He never thought twice before eating and never needed to diet.
  • In the real world, Joe's subconscious mind has decreased this body metabolism. As the mind is more focused on relationship, family, professional, political and social issues.. it forgot to take care of self.
  • As soon is any food presented in front of Joe, his conscious mind of controlling his diet is hijacked by the subconscious mind. A dangerous mixture of sensory inputs, old memories about food, emotions, brain chemicals and hormones, manage to quickly hijack the body and convince it that eating is a great idea.
.This is a big reason why diets fail.
This is the reason why people grow fatter and only a handful grow slimmer.

Your bad habits live in your subconscious mind.
Your bad habits have built up powerful connections within your mind and body.
And if you let your subconscious mind always run the show, you will find it IMPOSSIBLE to quit habits like over-eating, under-exercising, smoking, drinking, masturbation, etc…

I start a diet in the morning and it fails by evening!!!

Every Day I meet many people who consult me regarding their continuous failure to comply with weight-loss.

Be it the middle-aged housewife, that college girl, or the man who has been diagnosed with high BP due to obesity, weight-loss is one of the toughest exercises to endure by any individual.

Thou I could write pages on this topic, I will love too focus on 10 main reasons why 99% of you fail at weight-loss:

1. Assumptions - like every medicine is not adjusted for every body, every diet ain't suitable for every person. The earlier this myth is broken, the better.
2. Lack of Motivation - most diet plans are started out of "necessity" and "social needs" rather than self-motivation.
3. Comfort Eating - Food is the easiest way to feel good.
4. Peaceful Sleep - many people forget and many more don't even know that a peaceful sleep is essential for burning fat and decreasing appetite.
5. Starvation mechanics - starvation is a two edged sword... while you stop eating, it creates a calorie deficit which is filled by excessive deposition of fat.
6. Boredom.- The more bored you are in life, the greater the chances of using food as a way to "time pass".
7. Peer Pressure - Friends never understand your "need" to lose weight. They will always pressurize you to have that one small piece of cake, french fries or burgers.
8. Save money or burn fat - Food outlets love to make food addictive by giving super-sized meal combo options. The prizing and the image of getting much more for less, makes people over-indulge in eating.
9. Lack of Love - lack of love or aim in life, leads many to think about food.
10. Marketing - Every marketing professional will tell you that the one and only motive of every single print or media advertisement from the Food and Beverage industry is based on the single philosophy of making the food so appetizing that it can make "anyone hungry".

Sexual Stamina Advice For Men

Sex stamina advice for men

Sex isn’t just about self-satisfaction. In fact, if you really want to score high in the sack, it’s essential you build up your sexual stamina to last the distance and keep your other-half happy. Thankfully, a number of simple tips could help you on your way to a more fulfilling sex life. By following certain routines and adopting a few easy exercises, you’ll soon have the ladies queuing up around the block ... and improve your fitness in the process!

Staying fit and healthy for better sex

Sex may appear simple enough to master (unless you’re an inexperienced teenager or 40-year-old virgin fumbling around in the dark, that is). However, if you really want to boost the potency of your passion, it might be time you tried some of the following techniques ...

    * Working out groin muscles — If you often find yourself hobbling around with muscle pain the morning after a steamy night of passion, it might be useful to regularly stretch your groin, keeping it primed and ready for even the most outrageous sexual position. Basic groin stretches will better-prepare your body for a forthcoming sexual epic, so make sure you regularly try out a few when you get chance!

    * Building arm muscles Sexual stamina can require great upper-body strength, depending on which coital position you’re planning to adopt! It may therefore be an idea to enjoy the occasional free-weights session, gradually toning up your arm muscles. We’re not saying you should build yourself up into a beefcake Adonis overnight. However, the odd bout of upper-body exercise could really keep you energised for longer-lasting sex.

    * Staying mentally focused — An obvious one this, but if you really want to make the most of your sexual encounters, it’s vital you don’t let the possible repercussions play on your mind. Avoid worrying and allow yourself to stay focused in the bedroom by taking adequate precautions before you hop into the sack. Protect yourself against the perils of pregnancy scares with decent contraception and you’ll feel all the better for it.

    * Reducing alcohol consumption — If your nightly routine consists of downing the odd beer (or seven) at the local bar, before stumbling home for a swift night of passionate fumbling with your other half, you may need to reassess your thirst for booze. Alcohol can seriously damage your sexual virility when consumed in heavy doses, with its depressive nature dampening testosterone levels. A few drinks with the lads may help keep up social appearances, but they certainly won’t keep up things in the bedroom. So, unless you want to suffer the wrath of a moody spouse, unfulfilled by your semi-cocked sabre, try and take it easy, else the only hot date you’ll be making will be with that lonely single-bed in the spare room.

    * Improving blood-flow — Before you sprint to the doctor’s at the first sign of erectile problems, try and adopt a more natural way of increasing the blood flow to your groin, without the aid of Viagra. By regularly flexing and massaging your body’s central groin muscles, blood will start to flow more readily in that area, allowing you to stand to attention for longer in the bedroom.

    * Flexing the abdominal muscles — Whilst your torso may currently appear more of a flabby twelve-pack than a toned six-pack, a little abdominal exercise could go a long way in boosting your sexual stamina. The abs are key to providing bursts of sexual energy, driving the groin by thrusting it forwards and then releasing it. As a result, a few daily crunches or sit-ups could really develop your sex life, preventing you from flopping down onto your partner with sheer exhaustion in the middle of a bedtime romp. So build up those belly muscles and you’ll be feeling abs-olutely fabulous in no time!

    * Loving thyself ... but not too much — It won’t make you go blind, but ‘self-love’ could certainly damage your chances of making a potent first impression. What could be worse on a hot date than whipping off your boxer shorts to reveal ... well, not much at all really? Self-pleasure may while away the lonely nights between dates but it certainly won’t do much to strengthen your credibility in the presence of a female. No matter how desperate you get, try and save your energy for the real thing ... after all, sex is a marathon, not a sprint.

    * Stretching the quads and calves — Cramp is a big turn-off in the bedroom, with the quads and calves notably susceptible to sudden bouts of tightening pain. As a result, regularly stretching your leg muscles could seriously heighten your sexual experience, easing them into the demands of flexible sex-ercise. Don’t let muscular pain cramp your style ... work-out those quads and calves and you’ll soon feel the benefits.

Sex shouldn’t just be about making a quick entry and an even quicker exit. Instead, if you really want to enjoy a night of steamy passion and appease your partner in the process, it might be worth undertaking a few extra-curricular exercises and lifestyle tweaks to truly reach your optimum performance. Sexual stamina won’t come overnight but hopefully you will!
